Just A Few Things to Know
Before You Start
You are about to embark on a journey through a remarkable history captured through images, interviews, videos, and writing compiled over the last 20+ years. It is unique in historical detail, and rich in personal stories and first-person accounts of the events that have shaped this program over the decades.
- The mission of this work, from the beginning, has been to raise awareness of Washington Rowing and to reconnect our alums and community to this sport that has had such a positive impact on all of us. With Daniel James Brown’s bestselling book The Boys in the Boat published in 2013, and the subsequent George Clooney movie launched in 2023, this captivating history has become a global story that has attracted thousands of new visitors, and we welcome you!
- No other university sports program—across any sport—has a documented history containing the depth, narrative detail, and multimedia content found on this site, noted in one online review as “a model for how college and university athletic history can be preserved, curated, and shared outside institutional archives.“ Founded, written, and supported by Eric Cohen ’82 since 2003, this collection is dedicated to the men and women who, for 125 years, have built the tradition and lived the values of Washington Rowing.
